The State of the World: A Romans 1:18-32

It’s been a while since I’ve written here. Honestly, I’ve just been focusing on my own walk with God, trying to do better, live cleaner, and stay faithful in a time when it feels like everything around us is falling apart. My heart has been heavy these past weeks, and I know I’m not the only one who feels it. The world has been so dark, and the weight of it presses in. Men, women, children… there’s so much brokenness. So much rebellion. And as I’ve been praying, the Holy Spirit keeps pointing me back to God's Word to understand the times we’re living in.
I just finished reading the book of Acts, and it was so alive to me that I didn’t want it to end. From there, I moved into Romans. Romans has always been a tough book for me to fully grasp, but this time the Holy Spirit has been giving revalation and clarity. Someone asked a woman of God recently how she would describe the world today, and her answer hit me like a bullseye: Romans 1:18–32.
Romans 1:18 (NIV) says:
“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness.”
The commentator David Guzik (Blue Letter Bible) explained that we often mistake God’s wrath for human anger, but it’s not the same. Human anger can be sinful. God’s wrath is holy. It’s His righteous response to everything that stands against His Holiness, and when I look around, I can see it. The state of the world is a reflection of judgment: God has handed us over to our choices because we have exchanged His truth for a lie (Romans 1:25). That’s why the confusion is so rampant. Why sin is celebrated. Why darkness seems louder than light. Because many have been “given over” to a depraved mind (Romans 1:28).
But here’s where the Spirit convicted me: as Christians, we often rank sin (socially acceptable sin vs. socially unacceptable sin). We’ll shake our heads at murder, rape, and theft, but we brush past gossip, envy, fornication, or “little white lies (which is not a thing, by the way! A LIE IS A LIE).” But Romans 1:32 (NIV) reminds us:
“Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.”
Sin is sin. There’s no big or small in God’s eyes. And when we tolerate it, or worse, approve of it, we are no less guilty. This truth broke me. Because I realized how often I’ve chosen my flesh and approved the behavior of friends and family over God and His truth. Jesus said it clearly in Matthew 6:24 (KJV):
“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
And it hit me: every time I measure my life by what man thinks or what pleases my flesh instead of what God says, I’ve chosen another master. That realization drove me to repentance. This is why I had to step away from social media for a season. My heart couldn’t carry all the noise, the lies, the confusion, and the approval of certain behaviors. Yes, I know it all points to the soon return of Jesus Christ, but my spirit needed quiet. I am stepping away again, keeping only this space, because writing to you here matters. And it keeps me connected to this community.
Some may say, “It's by the Grace of God people are walking around with no regard for Him.” Yes, but what we’re seeing isn’t grace; it’s judgment. God has already handed many over to their delusions. And that’s why we must check ourselves: Is my life measured by God’s standard or by the world’s? I’ll be doing a short Bible study series on Romans 8 soon (three parts, one hour each). Please join, and bring friends and family. We need to wake up, understand these times, and walk in truth.
If you’re reading this and you don’t know Jesus, please don’t wait. The world won’t get easier. But in Christ, you’ll find peace and eternal life. Romans 10:9 (NIV) promises:
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Pray this with me: “Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner. I believe You died for me and rose again. Today, I accept You as my Savior. Forgive me, cleanse me, and make me new. I choose to follow You from this day forward. Amen.”
Family, these aren’t just the last days. They are the last minutes. The clock is ticking, and eternity is closer than we think. Let’s repent. Let’s live holy. Let’s fix our eyes on Jesus, the only One who can carry us through.
Because He’s coming. Soon. Blessings, Ketisha
